Maryland Volunteer Lawyers Service (MVLS) is a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization that connects low-income Marylanders in need of civil legal assistance with pro bono attorneys. Individuals can call during intake hours, Monday through Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., to explain their civil legal problems to our intake paralegals. If the caller qualifies for our free or reduced fee services, we will match the client with an attorney who has expertise in the areas of need. MVLS also provides free legal assistance to nonprofits working to strengthen low-income communities in Maryland. |
SpotlightFORECLOSURE PREVENTION PRO BONO PROJECTMore than 50,000 foreclosures are predicted for Marylanders in 2009. In partnership with the Pro Bono Resource Center of Maryland, Civil Justice and other legal service providers, MVLS responds to this crisis by carrying out what we do best – find lawyers for low-income Marylanders whose homes are in foreclosure. Homeowners who are not yet in foreclosure but who are having trouble with their mortgage should contact the Maryland HOPE Hotline at 1-877-461-7555 for referral to a housing counselor. Attorneys: Your help is needed! Contact the Pro Bono Resource Center to sign up for a free foreclosure training, then call MVLS at 410-539-6800 for a list of available pro bono cases.
