SERVICES FOR INDIVIDUALS AND FAMILIES
MVLS provides free (and in some cases low cost) legal representation to Marylanders with limited income. Each eligible client is matched with a volunteer lawyer who has the appropriate skills and expertise to provide quality representation. The lawyers are not on staff in MVLS' offices. Instead, each client is paired with a lawyer working in private practice who agrees to volunteer on your behalf.
Qualifications for service
An intake paralegal will let you know if your income falls within our guidelines when you call. Household income may not exceed 50% of the Maryland median income.

Geographic Area
MVLS' services for individual clients are available throughout Maryland. However, in Montgomery, Prince George's and Allegany Counties, services for individuals are limited because there are other pro bono organizations that serve those areas. In those counties MVLS only handles tax problems, back taxes, denial of public benefits, and legal assistance for nonprofit organizations.
