Elderly clients’ husband committed suicide on December 22, 2010. He was the main bread winner. Client is disabled and upon her husband’s death, client learned that her name was not on the deed to their home. Client states that it was her credit that allowed the parties to purchase the home. A personal representative was appointed and client has no power do to anything. The PR is willing to relinquish his Personal Representative status to the client but client’s lack of understanding is the issue to her problem at this time. Lender will not speak with the client as she is not on the deed. Client is on a waiting list with Catholic Charities and would like to remain in the home until an opening is available. Client left her controlling husband in December 2010. The parties have 3 children together who are staying with the husband in the marital home. Client would like to have visitation set up with her teenaged children and a claim to the marital home. There is a divorce hearing scheduled in the Circuit Court for Howard County on March 1, 2012 at 8:30AM. Client states that she has received notices stating that she owes approximately $18,000 to the IRS and $14,000 to the State of Maryland. Client states that the issues may have stemmed from when she was married. Per the divorce decree, husband accepted all responsibility for tax debt. Client also states that after divorce (2006) client may have filed her taxes wrong as she was told to file as “single” with her two children as dependents instead of filing for “head of household”. Client has divorce decree and tax returns from 2004 (when issue started) to current. Client states that in 2008 she was due a $11,000 refund and in 2009, she was due a $7000 refund both were intercepted by IRS. Client also states that tax issue is reported on her credit report. Elderly and disabled client wants to apply for a hardship. In 2004, client moved to Maryland due to employment. Client states that he has never filed taxes in Maryland. In 2008, client moved back to Virginia where he stayed there for approximately 1 year, he then returned to MD in June 2009. Client received a notice dated June 3, 2011 from the State of MD informing him that he owes $5647.96 for tax year 2005. Client states that he is unable to pay the money back because his only income is $1645 a month from SSDI which covers: rent of $635 monthly, car payment $445, car insurance $160, food $200, telephone $60, bank service charge $9.75, fax account $13 and transportation $55. Tax Professional preparer in trouble, now client is being audited – 12-922CB24
Client states that her paid tax preparer got into trouble and was audited in 2010 for tax year 2008. This has caused the client to be audited and now the State of Maryland claims that the client owes approximately $3000 plus interest. IRS claims that the client owes approximately $2800. US Tax Court (dependency exemption) - 11-0085023
Client received a notice from the IRS stating that he owes $3797.90 due to receiving the EITC/dependency exemption. Client claimed his adult disabled brother, granddaughter and child as dependents on this 2010 tax return. Client has set up his own payment arrangement of $200 per month to avoid a lien/garnishment however; he has filed a case with the US Tax Court and is seeking help in proving that he is allowed to carry the two children on his taxes. Client states that he has a letter from the children’s mothers giving him permission to carry the children. Client was laid off in 2005. Client took monies out of her 401K in tax years 2005 and 2006 because she was denied disability twice and was unable to find another job. Client states that H&R Block did not claim the client’s 401k withdrawal on our client’s taxes. Client has now received an “intent to seize your property or rights to property: Amount Due $12,925.73 for 2005″ and the same notice for 2006 in the amount of $3573.08. Client states that in March of 2011, the IRS starting taking $198 a month from her SSDI. In January 2011, the payments stopped without the client’s knowledge. In May 2011, the client received a letter from SSDI stating that she received an overpayment of benefits (which is why IRS stopped their garnishment). Client is unsure where to turn. Tax Refund given, now IRS wants it back – 121109CB24
20 year old client, whose only income is from food stamps, received notice CP71 dated August 29, 2011 stating that she owes $1007.76 from tax year 2006. Client states that the IRS adjusted her refund amount from $1700 to $1007.76 and now the IRS is requesting the money back. Client does not understand why her refund amount was adjusted and why she now owes the adjusted amount back to the IRS. Tax Requesting CNC status, recently released from 20 year prison sentence – 11-0085128
58 year old client whose only income is $200 a month from food stamps, who was recently released from prison serving a 20 year sentence, received a notice that he owes approximately $2000 in back taxes from 1991 and 1992 to the State of Maryland. Client states that he has not been notified by the IRS but is sure that if he owes the State, he probably owes the IRS. Due to the client’s low income, he is hoping to be placed on “CNC” status until he can become gainfully employed. Client recently filed his 2002-2008 back taxes. IRS states that the client owes approximately $18000 and to avoid the client’s wages from being garnished, the client has set up his own payment arrangement of $80 per month. Client has not received a response from the IRS. Client is seeking guidance as to discuss further options with a tax volunteer in regards to reducing the interest and penalties. Tax Vehicle repossession, cancellation of debt – 11E-1024403
49 year old client who lost her job and is receiving $900 a month from unemployment and $200 a month from food stamps, received a notice from the IRS stating that she owes $1157 from tax year 2009. IRS’ statement shows a cancellation of debt in the amount of $8887 for a vehicle that was repossessed. Also, client’s tax return also shows medical deductions in the amount of $1718; however, IRS is only allowing the client to claim $1052 of those deductions. Client received notices from the IRS stating that she owes approximately $10,921.06 for 2003 and $14,546.22 for 2002. Client also received a letter from the IRS stating that they have not received her 2010 Federal tax return. Client states that she has not filed her taxes from 1999 to current. It seems that the IRS has filed SFR’s for 2002 and 2003. Can you help her validate her debt and get her on a payment plan?
